Where to Eat Pizza and Cupcakes During Passover

Pizza and cupcakes during Passover?  Hear me out- this isn’t just some Manischewitz-soaked dream.  This year, DC-area restaurants are making it easy for you to have your Kosher cake and eat it too.

Even growing up in a household that was rather lackadaisical about adhering to religious customs, Passover was a time of torture in which delicious and normally acceptable food was forbidden.  You want toast for breakfast?  Too bad- here’s some matzo.  You want a pizza bagel for lunch?  Okay, here’s some pizza...matzo pizza.  You get the idea.

But now I realize it doesn’t have to be this way.  There’s a whole world of Passover-friendly dining out there, if you know where to go.

Rosa Mexicano, for example, is offering a “Passover a la Mexicana” menu featuring brisket tacos and Manischewitz-based sangria (why have I never thought of Manischewitz sangria before?  Genius).

Casa Nonna is featuring sfoglietti, Passover-friendly pasta made with matzo flour.  And Hudson and Perry’s are offering more classic Passover fare like matzo ball soup and  homemade gefilte fish.

As for the pizza, you can find that at Vince & Dominic’s Pizzeria in Bethesda.  Cupcake lovers have even more options, as Georgetown Cupcake, Crumbs, and Sprinkles are all featuring flourless cupcakes this Passover.  The eleven year old girl inside of me is completely thrilled!

For more options, check out the lists that DMV Dining and DCist have put together of area restaurants offering passover treats.

As always, check with the restaurant if you have specific dietary concerns.  Happy eating, and happy holidays!
