Where I Get My Hair Done: Urban Style Lab

I get compliments on my hair on the regular, and it's not because I'm one of those girls who spends hours teasing, curling, spraying, moussing, gelling, brushing or poufing it, either.

No, I get the follicle accolades entirely because of my stylist: Annie at Urban Style Lab. I've been singing her praises ever since Living Social provided a coupon for the salon, which is conveniently located just south of Dupont Circle.

As you can see from this Google Maps screen shot, Urban Style Lab is right near The Big Hunt,
so you can get your hair did and wash it down with a frosty beverage.

Now, since I already said I'm not one to spend hours in front of a mirror primping and since I'm clearly a girl who's constantly out and about, I need a cut that requires minimal maintenance. Additionally, I have thick, coarse tresses that explode into frizz in the swampy D.C. summer humidity and fall pin straight in the bone-chilling winters, so having a cut that navigates the seasons is also high on my priority list.

Stylist Annie comes through on all accounts. In the summer, I need only let my hair air dry to get this:

Pardon the face -- I was doing a tequila shot, which is always a bad idea.

And in the fall/winter, a quick blow dry and run-through with a straightening iron gets me this:

Look how nice my layers are!

In my case, the Living Social coupon did everything it was designed to do: It gave me a sample of the salon at a lower price (my coupon was $40 for $80 worth of services, which is just about how much it costs for a hair cut and nothing else) and earned my repeat loyalty. I've been back to the salon three more times.

Annie at Urban Style Lab, you are an American Hero. I salute you and everything you do. Thank you for doing the work so I don't have to.

  1. Ahh, so glad to hear a positive review of Annie, and such great timing! I've been going to Sertac for color at USL for over a year, but my haircutter (Liana) all of a sudden isn't there anymore and I booked Annie for a cut tomorrow! It looks like your hair has a similar texture to mine (thick and crazy?) so it's good to know that Annie can handle it.

  2. I think I've told you before but that layers look in the second photo especially makes me go, "Daaaaaaaaamn."
